I'm drawn towards images that are in between illustrative and painterly. I guess it's the frustrated artist in me! I like to use artistic plug-ins, and I will often reduce the opacity of the filter layer, change the blending mode, or even mix effects for an individualized look. Here's a screenshot close up...
